This documentation of the EcoMobility World Festival in Suwon, South Korea is receiving great interest!

From 1-31 October 2015, the City of Johannesburg in partnership with ICLEI organized the second EcoMobility World Festival. The ambitious Executive Mayor, Mpho Parks Tau, selected the Sandton Central Business District as Festival area. Sandton is the location of South African headquarters of banks, insurances, other corporations and of the Johannesburg Stock Exchange; it’s a mono-functional area which is pretty much dead at night, yet referred to as Africa’s richest square mile. Concerning traffic, however, Sandton has increasingly become synonymous to ‘congestion’

“What we can do in Sandton can be done everywhere in the city and the country”, said Mayor Tau to explain the choice of Sandton for a month-long happening. “Our aim is to encourage participation and creative thinking around the issue of ecomobility and show that Johannesburg is determined to combat climate change”

“Change the way you move” became the motto of a month-long campaign and collective experiment, addressing the 75,000 commuters who enter Sandton CBD every morning by car. Read more here.
